Our pigs are a rare traditional breed of Oxford Sandy and Black. They are free ranging from the day they are born and are very contended pigs. They provide us with good quality meat that we know has not been contaminated with antibiotics or GM food.
We have one sow, Polly, who has two litters of piglets each year. The piglets stay with Polly until the are 8 weeks old (or until Polly gets fed up of them). They go to slaughter between 6 and 9 months old.
Oxford Sandy and Black pigs are very good diggers and we use them to clear the next area of forest garden we are going to plant. Of course, they are also good fertilisers of the land too!
